As per the Darwinian evolutionary theory, “The fittest one will survive”. And in order to make your baby fit to have a healthy life it is better to try to boost her immunity from the very beginning. Here are some foods that you need to include in her diet to boost her immune system.

Breast milk 

Nowadays, doctors advise to only breastfeed your baby for the first six months. The breast milk has turbo-charged immunity-boosting antibodies along with white blood cells, which protects your baby from several infections and diseases like ear infections, allergies, pneumonia, diarrhea, urinary tract infection, meningitis. It also has the power to enhance baby’s brain power and helps to fight with  colitis, insulin-dependent diabetes, Crohn’s disease along with certain forms of cancer in older life. During the first few days after birth a thin yellow “premik” called Colostrum flows from the breast and is enriched with disease fighting antibodies. 

Blueberries

Anthocyanin, a special type of flavonoid is found in blueberries. The antioxidant property of the flavonoid helps to boost our immunity system. A study of 2016 states that flavonoids play a major role in the respiratory tract’s immune defense system. Research also says that a person who takes flavonoids is less likely to expose to common cold or upper respiratory tract infection than those who don’t have flavonoids. 

Spinach

Vitamin C plays a huge role in developing our immune system and spinach is rich in vitamin C. apart from this vitamin spinach also has other nutritional elements such as

  • Vitamin E
  • Carotenoids
  • Flavonoids

All of these are good for your baby’s immune system. Numerous antioxidants are present in this leafy vegetable, which increase the infection-fighting ability of our immune system. You need to lightly cook spinach in order to take all its nutrients. 

Citrus fruits

Vitamin C is responsible for the production of white blood cells, which fight against infections. Almost all citrus fruits contains vitamin C, such as

  • Oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • Limes
  • Lemons
  • Tangerine
  • Clementines

Some other fruits

Another vitamin C enriched fruit is papaya. This fruit also contains papain, which is a digestive enzyme and has anti-inflammatory effects. Apart from these papaya is enriched with some minerals such as folate, magnesium and potassium, which are good for one’s overall health. Just like papaya, there is another fruit, which is full of nutrients such as vitamin K, Vitamin C, potassium and folate. Vitamin C uplift white blood cells in order to fight infections and the other nutrients helps your whole body to function properly. 

Almonds

Vitamin E is on the second position in the list of the nutrients that fights and prevents colds. A healthy immune system is a result of this powerful antioxidant. As Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin, it needs fat in order to be absorbed properly. Nuts, such as almonds, are full of vitamin E and in addition to it, this nut also has fat. So, it is definitely a big hit on boosting the immune system. 

Turmeric

Turmeric has been used for treating osteoarthritis along with rheumatoid arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties for years. It is also said that turmeric with a cup of cow milk can increase the immunity system. The curcumin in turmeric is proven to treat exercise-induced damages in muscle, and it is also an anti viral. 

Add all the above-mentioned foods to your child’s diet when she is able to take solid food and until then only breastfeed her. You also can ask your baby’s pediatrician for your baby’s healthy and immunity boosting diet plan.
