Summer is at its peak and has started heating up the weather. It is the season of hot and sweaty summer, which will drain all our energy. Even we adults also try our best to get relief from the hotness and humidity. Not only our energy but the hotness of summer also saps away the appetite of your little one. In this time, keeping your baby hydrated is very important in order to keep her healthy, cool. Due to sweating a lot of water drains away from our body and we need to fill the requirement of water by having plenty. 

How to know if your baby dehydrated?

Here are some symptoms and signs that will help to recognize that your baby is dehydrated

  • She is thirsty
  • Flushed skin
  • Dry or cracked skin or lips
  • Headache
  • Decreased urine output
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Increased heart rate and low blood pressure
  • Concentrated, dark urine with a strong smell
  • Changing moods such as irritable, tired or drowsy. 

How to keep your baby hydrated?

In case your baby is less than 6 months old there is no need to give her water separately. She is getting the required water from breast milk or formula food. If you give her water it can cause loss of appetite and also cause an illness called “water intoxication.” So, if your baby is at least 6 months old make her drink water. For many older kids, you can hand them funny-looking water bottles in order to make them drink water more often. On the basis of the age, gender, and the activity of a kid the standard fluid intake can vary. Here are standard guidelines on how much fluids kids need to drink as per their age.

  • 1 to 3 years: 3.5 cups per day
  • 4 to 8 years: 5 cups per day
  • 9 to 13 years girls: 6.5 cups per day
  • 9 to 13 years boys: 7 cups per day

Add lots of fruits and vegetable to her diet

Fruits and vegetables are not only the source of nutrients but also give the water of hydration that we need in  summer. Fruits like cucumber, watermelon are a rich source of water so it is a must on your lid’s diet during the hot summer days. Though tomatoes are considered as vegetables but actually they are fruits and along with a rich source of vitamin c it also helps to keep your little one stay hydrated. Vegetables are also a very good source of antioxidants, minerals, fibres and phytochemicals.

Give her other kid-friendly drinks

If your baby does too much for drinking water. You can add some flavor to it by adding a little bit of juice in it. You also can give her milk or homemade smoothies. Fruits juices are really a good option here. They are getting the nutrients and also the goodness of fruits at the same time.
